India, Malaysia to boost cooperation, says PM Modi after meeting Malaysian PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, discussing ways to further strengthen bilateral ties. The meeting was marked by a warm exchange of views on diversifying cooperation between the two countries.

“Had a great exchange of views with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia. India and Malaysia will continue to work together to diversify bilateral cooperation,” Modi said in a post on X, highlighting the positive outcome of the meeting.

The meeting underscores the growing importance of India-Malaysia relations, with both countries seeking to enhance cooperation in areas like trade, investment, and technology. Malaysia is a key partner in Southeast Asia, and India is looking to strengthen its ties with the region.

The two leaders discussed ways to boost economic cooperation, including in areas like palm oil, electronics, and digital technology. They also emphasized the importance of cultural and people-to-people ties, with Malaysia home to a significant Indian diaspora.

The meeting comes as India seeks to strengthen its Act East policy, with Malaysia a key partner in the region. The two countries are expected to work together on initiatives like the Indo-Pacific Economic Corridor and the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement.
